Well, you may have already sensed a theme.  In preparation for Easter, we began a two-week series of messages called "ALIVE!" and nearly all of our songs focused on Christ's resurrection power or the life that we can experience because of it.  I came back into this weekend with a lot of energy and enthusiasm after having had the opportunity to spend two weeks on vacation.  There was an elevation of energy and excitement this weekend and I always love seeing our congregation connect with God meaningfully in worship.

This weekend's worship set included several strategic song choices ... obviously, God Is Alive was a logical choice since we've spent several weeks learning in in preparation for our Easter celebrations.

Since it was Palm Sunday weekend, I also chose Hosanna to remind us of Jesus' triumphal entry.  I also took some time in our services to explain the significance of Palm Sunday and even the word "Hosanna" for those who may be just starting out on their spiritual journey with Jesus.

Finally, we introduced a new Pocket Full of Rocks song called Alive.  I have to be honest - I chose this song with the intent that it would be a one-time-use featured tune but I was almost surprised by the overwhelmingly positive response to it!  I had at least a dozen people ask me if it was going to stay in our rotation of worship music because they liked it so much.  Any time a song gets that kind of response, the answer is generally going to be "yes!"  So I did a little tweaking and actually included this song as the prelude for our Easter celebration this coming weekend.

The lyrics of Alive say "loudly I'll sing, loudly I'll live, giving You all I have to give until the world knows the love that's made me so alive ..."  What a great proclamation for us to be making as the people of God!  We actually took time during the instrumental break of this tune to identify someone in our circle of influence who needs to know Christ.  Right then and there in the middle of the song, we reaffirmed our desire to pray for their salvation and prayed the 5-second prayer together before finishing off the song.

As we make the final push toward an exciting weekend, I want to encourage you all to continue praying that five second prayer for your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and ANYONE you know who needs to know Christ.  And more than that ... take the bold step and invite them to join you for any of our seven Easter weekend services (for more info on service times for Easter weekend, visit www.constancefree.org).

Father, please send Your Holy Spirit to work in the heart(s) of [these people].  Draw them to Jesus and make them Kingdom workers.  Amen.

Music Set | March 6/7

Here's the music set for March 6/7 at Constance Free Church:

I'm Singing | Kari Jobe | Self-Titled album
- - - - -
God Is Alive | Fee | Hope Rising album
All My Life | Parachute Band | All The Earth (Live) album

Revelation Song | Gateway Worship | Living For You album

Breathe | Christy Nockels | Passion: One Day Live album

Pastor Sean McDowell challenged us to live lives that are desperate for God - that seek Him and Him alone.  We chose to sing Breathe as a closing song because (even though it's been around for a long time) it's an impassioned confession of our need for Christ.

The worship songs this week were a combination of some congregational favorites and songs that talk about submit the entirety of our lives to God.  I also wanted our church to keep learning God Is Alive in preparation for Easter - it's just around the corner!
